HANSEL AND GRETEL @ THE KEY

Internationally-renowned theatre company NIE partner with Key Theatre to bring an unmissable half-term adventure to Peterborough.

In the middle of a snow-covered forest sits a tiny cottage unlike anything you’ve ever seen before. Its roof is made of gingerbread, the walls are made of chocolate cake, the door is made of boiled sweets and the windows of clear sugar glaze, but what’s inside? This February 14-16 follow Hansel and Gretel into the frozen forest… and find out.

Award-winning theatre company New International Encounter (NIE) are returning to Peterborough with this enchanting fairytale. Following the success of their site specific show ‘Tales from the Middle of Town’ in Queensgate Shopping Centre, the Key Theatre are delighted to partner with NIE on this funny, storytelling half-term adventure.

Famed for their ability to turn the most traditional of tales into spectacular productions, you’ll quickly forget you’ve ever heard the familiar fairytale before. There will be ludicrous clowning, jovial folk songs and a delightful use of puppetry with performers from all over Europe, and all for just £6 per child, or £30 for the whole family.

The company is also offering small and tall guests the opportunity to turn the Key into a magical winter wonderland with interactive craft workshops taking place each performance day for only £2.50 per person.

Fresh from a 7 week sell out run in Bristol, and with just six performances in Peterborough, this show pushes its performers to present the most wide-eyed production you could ever imagine. Expect giggling, gasping and big surprises as you wander into these woods, but make sure you don’t run out of those breadcrumbs – you might not be able to find your way out again…

‘Everyone is held in the spell of this…genuinely enchanting show’ **** – Lyn Gardner, The Guardian

‘a captivating version… with bright as a button humour, clever use of puppets to double the title characters and European folk music played by the talented multinational cast’ – The Stage

‘NIE serves up a feast of fun, theatre, music and laughter for the whole family – get your tickets while there are still some on the shelves.’ – Venue.
