New Year, New You – enjoy the great outdoors with Forest for Peterborough…
After the excesses of the festive season, why not head out into the great outdoors to get active with Forest for Peterborough? Not only will planting trees make a difference to your fitness but it will also help to improve your local environment! Join a tree planting event on Saturday January 9 at Grange Farm, Wittering (PE8 6NR).
Launched by the independent charity Peterborough Environment City Trust in 2010, Forest for Peterborough is an exciting project to plant over 180,000 trees in and around the city and surrounding countryside by 2030. The aim is to plant one tree for every person living in the city.
Wooded areas provide attractive spaces for people to exercise in and enjoy the outdoors. Trees are also associated with lowering people’s levels of cortisol – the stress hormone – and they improve air quality. In addition to this, planting trees is a great way to get fit: an hour of tree-planting will burn around 300 calories.
This free event is drop-in from 11am-4pm, but please bear in mind that the day will be finished when all trees are planted, so it’s recommended that you arrive early! Take along some lunch too. Register on 07715 372432 or via email at simon.belham@pect.org.uk.
Forest for Peterborough is supported by the Mick George Community Fund. For more information about the project and how you can get involved, please visit www.pect.org.uk.
