FOOD REVIEW: FRANCO MANCA

Pizza as it should be… ESP’s Food writer Kelly Jackson pays a visit to Franco Manca in Peterborough.

There are numerous places to grab a pizza in Peterborough, all with their own unique selling points. The latest, as you may have spotted while shopping near Cathedral Square, is Franco Manca. Sporting a stylish and typically Italian red and white branding in a prime location, it’s hard to miss as you go about your business.

Franco Manco’s delicious sourdough pizza is undoubtedly its USP and the reason I’ve been several times since it opened its doors in July.

The menu may be sparse compared to other venues but don’t let this put you off. There are pizzas to satisfy all tastes, with vegan and gluten free options, as well as daily specials and seasonal menus. Handmade to order, the pizza bases are soft and succulent - and easy to devour. You leave feeling satisfied but not stuffed with food.

There’s always room for dessert and Franco Manca offers a raft of light Italian puddings, including ice cream, sorbet and Tiramisu.

In these challenging times, when we’re all needing to count the pennies in our purse, you will be glad to hear that you can get one of Franco Manca’s sourdough pizzas from just £5.95. Most of its pizzas are under a tenner – and you get a decent serving, too!

One thing’s for sure; now that I have discovered the delights of sourdough pizza, I am not sure I want to go back to basics!

Franco Manca is based in Long Causeway/Cathedral Square, Peterborough.
