FOOD REVIEW: BALCONY BAR BREWERY TAP

ESP's food reviewer Kelly Jackson popped upstairs to the new Balcony Bar at the Brewery Tap....

Revellers in Peterborough can soak up the alcohol with a new late-night food offering at the Brewery Tap.

You can enjoy the venue’s new Balcony Bar menu on Friday and Saturday nights, which includes Thai snacks, charcuterie boards, cocktails and an extensive wine menu from 9pm onwards.

Until 10.30pm on both nights, you can select from a range of delicious Thai snacks such as spring rolls, firecracker cauliflower, prawn crackers, crispy garlic beef and crispy pork belly. The Balcony Bar provides a cosy seating area to enjoy the nibbles and conversation over a drink while overlooking the dance floor and listening to the music.

On recommendation from the manager, we tried the firecracker cauliflower (in a Tempura batter, caramelised with sesame oil and Sriracha chilli sauce) – while it had a spicy, medium kick, it wasn’t too hot. We also had vegetable spring rolls (duck is also available) with a mango dip, and the pork belly, which was crispy and deep-fried and served with a light soy sauce. Drinks wise, we made the most of the two for £12 cocktails (available until 11pm), going for the refreshing gin garden martini.

If you’re there for a late night, you can choose one of the new charcuterie boards, which can be prepared for one, two or four people. These are available to order from 9.30pm to 1.30am on Fridays and until 2.30am on Saturdays. While we were waiting for the board to be served, we nibbled on a bowl of pork scratchings (another snack on the menu) and enjoyed a bottle of white wine.

Included on the charcuterie board were cheese, crackers, grapes, olives, and cold meats such as salami Parma ham and chorizo. These smaller plates are perfect for nibbling on throughout the night and sharing with friends.

It was lovely being seated upstairs beneath the strings of lights and with two amazing murals at either end depicting beach scenes creating a holiday vibe – and, even better, you don’t have to queue for the bar as table service is included!

So if you’d like to tuck into some delicious, freshly prepared nibbles and snacks instead of the usual late-night takeaway, I’d highly recommend going to the Brewery Tap’s Balcony Bar. Go on, give it a try!
