FILM REVIEW: JACKASS – BEST & LAST (18) ESP RATING: 4/5

A surprisingly heartfelt farewell!

Blimey! I never thought I'd be writing about how a Jackass movie made me emotional.

I remember being around 16 when Jackass first aired on MTV, and I genuinely couldn't have been more the target audience. My mates and I were obsessed - although, to be fair, so was seemingly every other teenager on the planet. Every Monday we'd meet up at school, talking about the latest stunts, laughing at what we'd watched and, despite the warnings at the start of every episode, attempting our own painfully ill-advised versions. It really was one of those rare shows that became a genuine worldwide phenomenon.

Over the years, we've heard the cast say that each new Jackass film would probably be the last. By this point, it's almost become part of the joke. They even poke fun at that fact in Best & Last itself. But this time... it actually feels true.

Directed by longtime collaborator Jeff Tremaine, the film reunites Johnny Knoxville,

Steve-O, Chris Pontius, Dave England, Preston Lacy, Jason 'Wee Man' Acuña and the rest of the gang for one final celebration of everything that's made the franchise so beloved.

Alongside brand-new stunts, the film also includes never-before-seen footage from years gone by, as well as a handful of classic moments that are simply too good not to revisit.

At this point, you already know what you're getting.

If you've never understood Jackass, this film isn't suddenly going to change your mind. This version, just like others, is nothing more than stupid people doing incredibly stupid, painful and often disgusting things for our entertainment.

I took a friend with me to watch it, and it brought out the inner child in both of us. We were laughing out loud throughout. It reminded me exactly why the series (and then films) were such a sensation in the first place.

But what caught me completely off guard was the ending. For the first time, this genuinely feels like goodbye.

And I felt a lump in my throat. It suddenly hit me that this really could be the end of an era.

This could have felt like a cash grab, but it didn’t. It felt like a thank you. A thank you to the fans who have laughed, winced, and grown up alongside them.

Simply put, if you love Jackass - then you’d be a jackass to miss this poignant farewell.
