Runners will pound the streets this Sunday in the new Peterborough Marathon.
This great new event organised by Sublime Racing will take place on Sunday April 14 and inspirational runner, Jo Pavey is the Peterborough Marathon race ambassador.
Five-time Olympian Jo Pavey has got right behind the event. Having represented Great Britain in every Olympic Games from 2000 to 2016 the 45-year-old mum of two is the only British runner and track event athlete to have competed in five games and she’s hoping to qualify to make that six Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020!
Jo Pavey commented, “I’m really thrilled to be supporting the exciting new Peterborough Marathon in 2019. It’s an absolutely fantastic course that is 95% traffic free, scenic and flat. With such a good course the runners will have a great opportunity to run a personal best time.
“It’s fantastic for Peterborough to have a full marathon, and brilliant that runners will be able to experience running the event in this great city. I’m sure this marathon is going to become extremely popular and I’m very excited to be involved.”
The 26.2 mile race will start and finish within yards of the fantastic Race HQ and event venue, the Marriott Hotel.
The course heads towards the city centre taking in the stunning Nene Park en-route. Once in the city centre the route passes the cathedral, joins the Green Wheel cycle pathways and runs along the picturesque River Nene, before heading back toward the Marriott Hotel for the after party.
Course Director André Pittock says – “We plan to have a relatively low-key debut running of the event this year to allow us to gain a full understanding of the demands of hosting the full distance marathon.”
Throughout the day the 4 Star Marriott Hotel is host to the Peterborough Marathon Supporters Lounge which is open before, during and after the race to participants and supporters alike.
There’ll be a chill out area, plus music throughout the day including a live band, with marathon special food and drink available at all price ranges in addition to access to the hotel’s usual bars and restaurants.
You can cheer on the runners at the start and wait in comfort for them to finish.
Free raffle tickets will also be on offer for a chance to win headphones, a functional movement screening and entry to Peterborough Marathon 2020, look out for the Advance Performance team to get yours. The draw will take place on the day and winners will need to be there with their ticket to claim their prize.
