DRAGON BOAT RACE IS GREAT DAY OUT

It’s time to beat the drum about one of the city’s most exciting events of the summer as the Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival returns.

The event organised by NewWave Events on Saturday June 22 is a sell out success once again and that means 48 teams will be competing throughout the day at Peterborough Rowing Lake. There’ll be thrilling races every few minutes to keep you entertained as crews take to the water in ornate dragon boats and paddle hard to the finish.

If you’ve never seen it before it’s well worth a watch but there will be plenty of lakeside activities to keep you amused so head down with the family, grab an ice cream and cheer on the teams.

There’ll be food stalls and family fun including fairground rides and inflatables. Take part in the Glo Golf Crazy Golf Experience and challenge your friends and family to a round of mini-golf.

Test your reflexes and see who can score the highest in just 30 seconds on the Batak Pro Reaction Game and take home a souvenir picture of yourself created by a caricaturist.

One of the highlights of the day will be the Submarine Spitfires fly over the Rowing Lake at 4pm.

ESP Magazine is proud to be the media partner for this fantastic annual event and our ESP Motley Crew will be taking to the water to compete and hoping not to sink! It’s the taking part that counts, that’s our motto. There’s always a great atmosphere and all of the organisations and businesses who enter have an incredible day.

The event is sponsored by Hotpoint and is a major fundraising event for Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice. Pop and see them on their stall and there will be plenty of ways to support them on the day.

Nilesh Patel (pictured right), Senior Community Fundraiser at Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice, said – “Our sell-out Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival is back, and we can’t wait to welcome crews and spectators to the event again this year. In 2023, with the support of you, our amazing community, we raised an incredible £42,000.

"This year, we hope to make even bigger waves for Sue Ryder so we can continue to be there when it matters. So, get down to Peterborough Rowing Lake and cheer our teams on to the finish line - you will be helping to make a real difference to ensure no one has to die or grieve alone."

Aiden Ward, Logistics and Event Manager at NewWave Events, shared his excitement - “We can’t wait to welcome everyone to this year’s festival. It’s a fantastic day out for the whole family, and with all the teams ready to race, we’re looking forward to a record-breaking event both in terms of fun and fundraising!”

So join us all for an amazing free day out at Peterborough Rowing Lake – we will be the ones looking shattered but smiling!
