Get ready to celebrate Italian style as Peterborough’s two-day annual Italian Festival returns for the eighth year.
Our love affair with Italian food and culture just keeps getting stronger in the city with flourishing restaurants leading the way.
Of course food will play an integral part in this year’s fabulous Italian Festival on September 10 and 11 bringing a taste of la dolce vita to the city centre.
Cathedral Square is set to be packed once again as the city’s Italian community welcomes everyone to join them for a celebration.
The main attraction this year is highly regarded chef Carmelo Carnevale who’ll be staging cooking demos in a masterclass on both days with two slots each day.
Born in Sicily and now living in London, Carmelo’s career has taken him all over Europe – and to some of London’s leading restaurants, Floriana and Harry’s Bar among them. Most recently, he was Head Chef at Mayfair’s highly regarded Bar Trattoria Semplice, receiving rave reviews for his authentic but accessible Italian dishes.
The event’s thought to be the biggest Italian Festival in the UK and is now in its eighth successive year, it kicks off from 12noon until 5pm on both days. Organised by the Italian Community Association and supported by the City Council, there’s always a great vibe and great attendance at this one so don’t miss out.
The weekend brings a real Mediterranean feel to the city centre celebrating the Italian passion for everything from great food to performance cars.
Browse the many trade stands selling delicious treats and jewellery and then try some wine tasting, sample liqueurs like Limoncello and stock up at the Italian market which will be selling a wide range of sweet and savoury food, olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Of course there’ll be plenty of gelato, wood-fired pizza (of course!) a bakery and delicatessen.
Entertainment includes singing, dancing and opera and for children there’ll be a magician, face painting and sculpture workshops to keep them amused.
There’ll be some fantastic vehicles on display too including Ducati motorbikes, Vespas and Lambrettas and various Italian cars from the 1960s to the present day.
