CHARITY FUN DAY FOR PARALYMPIC HOPEFUL

A special family fun day’s been organised to help raise funds to send a Peterborough Paralympic hopeful to Rio.

The event at the Cresset on Sunday August 30 is being held to raise funds for Craig’s Road To Rio 2016. Craig Green is the Gym Co-ordinator at the YMCA gym in The Cresset, and is currently in training to take part in the 2016 Paralympics. Craig is a C5 category cyclist, and is working hard to raise enough money to fund the necessary equipment and training materials, as well as racing at every opportunity to gain vital qualification points.

Peterborough & Cambridgeshire YMCA are hosting the event this Bank Holiday weekend at The Cresset, with loads of activities and things to do for all ages. Bouncy castles, a bungee run, gladiator duel, inflatable sumo tournaments, basketball games and a spinning bike challenge all make sure there’s plenty to get you moving!

Take part in the spin challenge and win a bike! Stamina is key, as the prize will go to the longest spin session recorded on the day. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.

If you’re worn out after that, have a browse through the Sue Ryder jumble stall, get a cuppa and a homemade cake from the cake stall, try your luck on the tombola, and say hi to the guys from the POSH Club Shop who will be taking their mobile unit to The Cresset for the day.

You can read more about Craig’s story at www.craigc5green.co.uk and find out more about his racing on the day as Craig will be showing the spinning competition entrants how it’s done.

It’s all on from 10am – 4pm and admission’s free.

Event organisers are still welcoming donations for the raffle and tombola, and there are a few spaces left for stalls on the day, contact Julie Martin on 07976 382608 or email julie.martin@theymca.org.uk.
