Ever wanted to be part of a big movie? Well Peterborough’s Lamphouse Theatre group are giving you the chance to play your part in their new blockbuster.
They’ve been keeping us entertained (and themselves) throughout the lockdowns with all kinds of online fun and for their latest project they decided to make a Peterborough movie. Now they’re staging a series of free online workshops so you can play your part – and it’s not just actors they’re looking for.
Lamphouse Theatre have spent all year watching movies on Netflix. Now theatres are getting ready to open again they have to perform, but they’ve forgotten how to do it. So, they’re going to make a movie on stage instead, and you can be a part of it!
In their BLOCKBUSTER project Lamphouse will work digitally with 300 people from Peterborough to make a blockbuster movie, and the show will be performed on stage in front of a live audience (when restrictions allow).
There’s a whole range of online workshops that you can take part in, from singing to acting and even drawing. Take a look at the list below, and remember places are limited so make sure you sign up before it’s too late!
Lamphouse’s BLOCKBUSTER workshops are all free, and take place online. Sign up information can be found at www.lamphousetheatre.co.uk/blockbuster
Blockbuster choir – 30th March and 20th April
Can you sing? Lamphouse have created a digital BLOCKBUSTER choir to sing on the movie soundtrack. You’ll work with Musical Director Sam Sommerfeld, whose credits include Sting’s musical The Last Ship and Everybody’s Talking About Jamie (Crucible Theatre, Sheffield), to learn the music in two online sessions and then record yourself singing. The choir will appear on a huge screen in the final show!
29th March (ages 8 – 12 years) and 31st March (ages 13 – 18 years)
During the Easter holidays 8-18 year olds can star in their very own movie trailer. Lamphouse are running two online acting workshops with bilingual duo Rachael and Mia to create and make two exciting movie trailers. The workshops are in BSL and spoken English and are open to young people who are Deaf, hard of hearing or hearing.
No Lamphouse live on stage movie would be complete without a dash of physical comedy. Lamphouse’s actors get their inspiration from Laurel and Hardy, Borat and even Mr Bean. Anyone over 14 is invited to join artistic director Tom Fox and comedian Richard Parnwell for a day to find funny and exciting ways to tell a story… silently!
All good blockbuster films feature an invading alien army… right?! Join master doodler Korp and learn to draw an alien which will be displayed as part of the backdrops on the BLOCKBUSTER set. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never drawn before, or if you’re already an artist. This workshop is open to anyone over the age of 12.
Acting for Adults – 15th April-20th May (6 evening sessions)
In Lamphouse’s Acting for Adults workshops you’ll work with artistic director Tom Fox and take a whistlestop tour of acting techniques, play a range of characters and have a whole lot of fun! During the workshops your contributions will be filmed and will appear digitally as part of the BLOCKBUSTER show. Anyone over the age of 16 is welcome.
All the workshops are free and take place online. Sign up at www.lamphousetheatre.co.uk/blockbuster – places are limited so don’t miss out!
