Choose Well this May Bank Holiday if you need help…
For anyone who feels unwell or gets an injury over the weekend, there are a range of services available to help in the city.
Local pharmacists across the city can help with colds, coughs, stomach troubles, headaches, sore throats or even a bad hangover! Pharmacists have many years of medical training and are knowledgeable on a wide range of illnesses and injuries. A number of pharmacies will be open over the weekend in Bretton, Hampton Hargate, Wisbech and the centre of Peterborough. Check the list on the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough CCG website at www.cambridgeshireandpeterboroughccg.nhs.uk
If an illness or injury requires urgent attention, you should ring your usual GP phone number which will give you details for the GP out of hours service to access a nurse or GP for advice. The Walk-In Centre at the City Care Centre in Thorpe Road is also open from 7am-10pm every day and can treat chest infections and tonsillitis, as well as a range of minor illness and injuries.
NHS Direct are also on hand with information and advice 24/7, just call 0845 46 47. Alternatively NHS Choices at www.nhs.uk covers a whole host of illnesses and injury information, including causes, symptoms and treatment.
Don’t forget that calling 999 and the hospital emergency department are for life threatening conditions only, such as heart attacks, strokes, loss of consciousness and severe trauma or injury. Bank Holiday weekends can see increased pressure on emergency services and it is important you choose well to access the right service and help use NHS resources wisely.
