INTERNATIONAL INDIAN DANCE FESTIVAL

Peterborough is set to make cultural history with the city's first dedicated Indian dance festival at The Cresset on Friday July 31.

It promises to be a vibrant celebration of dance, music, heritage and community presented by the Peterborough Cultural Alliance (PCA) and it’s hoped this will become an annual celebration.

For one spectacular evening, Peterborough will come alive with the sights, sounds and spirit of India as exceptional dancers from across the UK and around the world take to the stage.

From the timeless elegance of ancient classical forms to the vibrant energy of regional folk traditions and the bold creativity of contemporary choreography, this festival offers a breathtaking journey through one of the world's richest and most diverse dance cultures.

Rooted in centuries of tradition yet constantly evolving, Indian dance is more than performance – it is a powerful expression of devotion, celebration and human connection.

Whether you are a devoted lover of dance, curious to discover something new, or simply looking for an unforgettable cultural experience to share with family and friends, the International Indian Dance Festival promises an evening that will inspire, entertain and move you.

As the culmination of South Asian Heritage Month, this landmark event will bring together nationally acclaimed artists, community performers and dance schools from across the UK, free workshops and the acclaimed feature production PLAY BALL by Srishti – Nina Rajarani Dance Creations.

The festival will offer audiences a rare opportunity to experience an impressive range of Indian dance traditions on one stage, including Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Kuchipudi, Odissi, Mohiniyattam, Bihu, Garba, Ghoomar and Bollywood dance.

The day will begin with free interactive Kathak and Bollywood dance workshops, giving participants the opportunity to learn directly from experienced practitioners and engage with two of the most popular dance forms from the Indian subcontinent.

Guests arriving for the evening programme will be welcomed in The Cresset atrium by a vibrant Traditional Maharashtrian Lezhim and Drum Performance and a major highlight of the evening will be PLAY BALL, presented by Srishti – Nina Rajarani Dance Creations from London.  Playball captures the spirit of modern life through love, football and the workplace, performed by an all-female cast.
