ANYONE CAN JOIN US AT THE DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL THIS JUNE!

The Dragon Boat Festival on Saturday June 10 will be great fun and although lots of work teams have already entered – you and your mates can too!

It’s not just an event for corporate teams so gather together your friends, a pub team or sports club and join us on the water. ESP is proud to be the print media partner for the event this year and we’ll be racing on the day.

Although several companies have already signed up for the event at Peterborough Rowing Lake, any team of enthusiastic crew members can give it a go.

Jill Naylor’s celebrating her 50th birthday this year and her hubby entered her as a birthday gift to mark the occasion. Jill tell us she’s pulled together her friends and family, anyone “daft enough to agree” to take to the water under the team name ‘Fabulous Fifty’.

Jill told ESP – “We’ve lived in Peterborough for 15 years and always meant to go and watch but are usually on holiday, so our first experience… we will be in it!”

It’s great fun to take part in with plenty of bankside fun while the racing’s underway. Connect FM will be commentating on the races and there’s plenty of family entertainment.

The Dragon Boat Festival is raising money for Sue Ryder and community fundraiser Nilesh Patel old ESP – “We’re delighted to see it’s not only businesses signing up to take part in this but groups of friends who are using it as an occasion to celebrate a special birthday. The more teams there are the more fun there is to be had and of course the more money that can be raised for Thorpe Hall Hospice.”

Jill says she can’t wait – “I’m really looking forward to the chance to have a great time with some lovely friends and family as well as raise some money for a deserving charity, Sue Ryder.

“We’re all getting older and as you do, your priorities shift and you become more aware of the sadder aspects of life which can’t be ignored. We lost my father to cancer at a young age, he was lucky in that he didn’t suffer for long in the end but for some this is not an option. I would like to think that the efforts we make on the day helps make a difference to someone and their family.”

Everything’s provided by organisers Gable Events and you don’t need any experience to take part, you’ll be given full instruction – just prepare to have a good laugh!

Some of the teams signed up already are:

Amaray (Silver), Ballast Phoenix, Barhale PLC, Buckles Solicitors LLP,

Environmental GB Ltd, Froglife, Masteroast Coffee Co. Ltd, Marshfields School,

Midco Care, NetSupport Ltd, Peterborough Greyhound Stadium, PS Financials,

Rawlinsons Chartered Accountants and Sue Ryder Care.
