WONDER WOMAN SAVES CHRISTMAS

ESP’s film reviewer Gavin Miller has news of the latest big screen release and a ‘wonderful’ offer for Peterborough’s movie fans…

Exclusive Real D 3D Screenings of Wonder Woman 1984 at Showcase Peterborough with free upgrades from Wednesday.

Girl Power could have just saved Christmas – with the sequel to Wonder Woman being the only major blockbuster release during the festive period.

That makes it only the SECOND major big-budget box-office event since the pandemic started in March – Christopher Nolan’s Tenet was the first in August – as Gal Gadot returns as the lasso-wielding Amazonian Princess Diane Lane alongside acclaimed director Patty Jenkins.

It opens this Wednesday (December 16) at Peterborough’s Showcase Cinema De Lux, and as well as the film being made available in 2D across multiple screens at the Boongate location, the multiplex is also offering some exclusive Real D 3D screenings at the same price as 2D!

For the DC Comics’ follow-up, Wonder Woman fast forwards to the 1980s, and reconnects with her love interest who had presumably died in the first film – Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor.

This time she has to tackle two foes, in the form of The Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal as powerful Lex Luthor-esque entrepreneur Max Lord, and Bridesmaids’ Kristen Wiig as archaeologist Barbara Ann Minerva – who turns into Cheetah when she becomes imbued with cat-like abilities and powers.

After the original film arguably saved the DC Universe in 2017 – after previous flops in the franchise – Wonder Woman 1984 could now quite conceivably save the cinematic experience over Christmas, with a blockbuster so sorely needed to really give the box-office an important boost after the likes of Bond film No Time to Die were delayed until next year.

Fingers-crossed the First Lady of Justice League does just that…
