Stamford Shoestring Theatre Company bring us a warm, witty and heartfelt look at a family falling apart – and pulling together – when life doesn’t turn out quite the way they hoped.
The Herd by Rory Kinnear is set around events at Andy Griffith’s twenty-first birthday. His mother Carol is making the final arrangements for his party. Just the immediate family, until two unexpected – and not necessarily welcome – extra guests turn up.
Carol’s careful planning is turned upside down as secrets are revealed and old resentments surface. The domestic pot is about to boil over.
“I’m a great admirer of Rory Kinnear as an actor so I was eager to see what themes he would pursue as a playwright.
“As soon as the action started, I was drawn into the complexities of the family dynamics, the frequent use of humour to defuse conflict and the tenderness at the heart of the story.
“Unfortunately, I had to wait for years until the amateur rights were released!”
