Peterborough’s Showcase Cinema De Lux re-opens this Monday May 17 – after a five month temporary closure due to the Covid pandemic and ESP’s resident film critic Gavin Miller can’t wait to grab the popcorn…
There are impressive safety protocols and sensational special offers in place for the re-opening after lockdown – and with the vaccination roll-out in full flow there are some big movies hitting the Boongate-located cinema immediately.
This is great news for movie buffs wanting to get their big-budget movie fix as soon as possible – after a cinematic blockbuster famine that has lasted 14 months with only Tenet and Wonder Woman 1984 of any magnitude released in that period.
From Monday the Showcase will house some major releases in the form of the Chris Rock/Samuel L Jackson starring Saw horror franchise spin-off Spiral: From the Book of Saw.
And then with half-term on the horizon in the next couple of weeks, some stellar kids/family movies unleashed in the form of Peter Rabbit 2 and Tom & Jerry: The Movie, as well as Disney’s Raya and The Last Dragon – which has been available on Disney Plus: Premier Access – hitting the big screen for the first time.
Also making its cinematic bow is the $500 million worldwide monster smash Godzilla vs Kong, alongside acclaimed Awards season stand-outs like the multiple Oscar-winning Nomadland, Judas & The Black Messiah and Sound of Metal.
This week is rounded off by two other brand new releases, the Angelina Jolie-led firefighting drama Those Who Wish Me Dead and another horror flick, The Unholy.
And that’s just the tip of the iceberg with further highly-anticipated releases (and Special Event screenings) around the corner (see below) as the UK tries to get back to some sort of normality – and Showcase has a plethora of re-opening offers to help the job along.
This comes in the form of Insider members only paying only £7.30 a ticket any day until June 30, family tickets costing just £20, and 3D screening being provided for the same price as 2D.
And for that extra bit of reassurance there are the very best sanitisation (including air purifying systems and non-chemical anti-viral spray on seating) and social distancing measures – with two seat gaps between parties of 1-6 people – in place with their ‘Be Showcase Safe’ policy.
One thing for sure is ESP’s film critic Gavin Miller will be there the very first day of re-opening – and will bring you a review of Spiral: From the Book of Saw next week…
