Peterborough’s speedway riders are to hit the shops to raise awareness of the all action sport on the eve of the new season.
The T Balfe Construction Panthers riders and bosses will showcase the sport during a visit to the Serpentine Green shopping centre at Hampton on Saturday March 12.
They’ll be there from 9am until mid-afternoon along with bikes and promotional material as they bid to spread the word and attract more supporters.
Promoter Ged Rathbone said: “We have made no secret of the fact we want to attract more people to our home meetings at the East of England Showground.
“Crowd levels increased pleasingly last season, culminating in two terrific attendances during the play-offs, and we will do all we can to ensure they continue to rise.
“It’s great to have the opportunity to take the sport to the people and hopefully we can unearth a few new fans during the day.”
The Septentine Green visit forms part of a busy three-day programme of events for Panthers.
The club stage their Press & Practice event at Alwalton on Friday March 11 ahead of a pre-season social bash, organised by the Peterborough Panthers Speedway Supporters’ Club (PPSSC), in the evening.
They’ll then be out in force at Serpentine Green the following day before attending the Ben Fund Bonanza at King’s Lynn en masse to cheer on captain Ulrich Ostergaard and reserve Emil Grondal, who are riding in the season-opening meeting.
And a hectic spell concludes on Sunday March 13 when Ostergaard stages his ’10 Year Spectacular’ testimonial meeting at the East of England Showground at 2pm.
