The standing ovation at the end said it all as Tommy Steele and the cast of the musical Scrooge took yet another bow.

“Peterborough – I love ya! Now go home!” the star shouted as he struggled to exit the stage as the cheers continued.

If this fantastic show doesn’t get you in the mood for Christmas nothing will and you are indeed of the ‘Bah, humbug’ mentality of Ebenezer.

Based on the Dickens’ classic, A Christmas Carol, this highly acclaimed production which has had a record breaking run at the London Palladium didn’t disappoint with an impressive set, fabulous special effects and a great cast belting out lively tunes with real enthusiasm.

For those who remember a younger Tommy Steele his singing voice is as strong as ever and instantly recognisable, and for those unfamiliar with the star, his version of Scrooge has surely endeared him to a new generation.

If you recall him as a smiley cheeky chap you might not at first picture him as fitting the bill as this miserly character, but Tommy gives us a convincing version of crotchety old debt collecting Scrooge and an equally convincing transformation into the joyous reinvigorated character who finally finds his Christmas spirit and generosity.

Jacob Marley in his chains eerily appears looking every bit the beleaguered ghost and the actor playing the Ghost of Christmas Present is a wonderful Brian Blessed style character with real stage presence who set everyone trembling in their seats let alone Scrooge!

If you can get along the show runs until Saturday December 14 – this show has been an international smash hit for a reason so don’t miss your chance to see it while it’s in Peterborough!

This short season of amazing shows at The Broadway will be coming to an end in January with Blood Brothers so make the most of this fabulous theatre while you can and enjoy top quality shows on your doorstep.
