POPPIES FOR HEROES @ DOBBIES

Dobbies Garden Centre, Peterborough, is on a quest to help local communities commemorate this year’s 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War.

As part of its community programme, Here We Grow, Dobbies, Peterborough, has launched its latest campaign, ‘Poppies for our heroes’, to help local communities mark the occasion in the traditional way.

The leading garden centre retailer has over 12,000 poppy seeds to give away to local community groups across the UK, encouraging them to turn their attention to empty green spaces in their local area and plant poppy seeds in March and April to ensure they flower in time for Remembrance Day this November.

Nadine Fountain, community champion at Dobbies Garden Centre, Peterborough, told ESP – “We are really looking forward to launching our latest Here We Grow campaign, ‘Poppies for our heroes’ and think it’s a great way for our local community to mark the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War.

“Poppies need to be planted in March or April to ensure a colourful display for Remembrance Day in November.  The displays of poppies will serve as a mark of respect for those who lost their lives in battle and in November, the whole country will be looking to remember our heroes.

“Whether you’re a school, community organisation, local charity, hospital or care centre, looking to mark this occasion we would love to hear from you.”

Here We Grow helps local communities to develop green space in their area by encouraging local community groups, projects, schools and charities to enjoy planting and growing in their own gardens, by offering products, equipment, support and help.

How to apply: If you would like to put your group forward for consideration, contact the community champion at your local Dobbies store.  For more information, please visit www.dobbies.com.
