PLAYGROUND @ FERRY MEADOWS SCOOPS AWARD

If you’re looking for somewhere to get the kids out in the fresh air the Otter Playground at Ferry Meadows has proved it’s one of the best!

The exciting new Otter playground scooped a top award at the British Institute of Landscape Industries (BALI) awards ceremony held recently in London. The playground received the ‘Principal Award’ in the BALI Registered Contractors and Registered Designers Joint Submission category and was also a winner in the ‘Community and Schools Development’ category.

Otter playground, a natural wooden play area, is located next to the Visitor Centre and Ferry Meadows Café. A meandering path travels through the playground taking children on a journey of discovery. With water and sand play, cradle swings, an oversized slide, a hollow log, a clambering bridge, a tree den and swinging acorn pods, there’s plenty to explore.

The judges’ commented – “This impressive and thoroughly successful play scheme is the result of a robust design that has considered the needs of children and the local community. The timber play equipment workmanship is first class.”

Teresa Wood, Head of Visitor Services said – “The Trust has worked closely with Landscape Architects, Davies White, and Ground Workers, Gerald Davies, and are pleased how the Otter playground is in keeping with the Park landscape. This award brings together water and sand play as well as many other elements of enjoyable play.”

Otter playground is the first phase of improvements to the play experience in Ferry Meadows Country Park.
