A performer from Peterborough is returning to his home town to star in a new show at the Key Theatre.
West End performer Rob Fowler, originally from Morton near Bourne, returns to the city with his Vision of You concert show this month.
Rob began his professional career over 20 years ago and took his first steps on stage in the Key Theatre Peterborough (KYT) where he was a member of the Key Youth Theatre and performed in their production of Much Ado Ron Ron.
Since then he’s proved to be another success story from the city and has enjoyed a hugely successful career in professional musical theatre, playing many roles throughout Europe, including Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar, Galileo in We Will Rock You, Frank n Furter in The Rocky Horror Show and most recently, the principal role of Falco in Jim Steinman’s smash hit production of Bat Out Of Hell which ran in The Dominion Theatre in London’s West End.
He’s returning to the Key Theatre on Tuesday March 19 with his own concert alongside fellow performer Sharon Sexton, a live band, West End performers and he has incorporated over 20 members of the current Key Youth Theatre.
Rob and Sharon Sexton (Commitments, Billy Elliot, Liza Minnelli Story) met on the first day of rehearsals for Jim Steinman’s Bat Out Of Hell in 2016. Despite the fact that the numbers they performed in the show were soaring and intricate duets, the pair had never sung together. It is clear to all who have seen the show that their ‘amazingly strong, clear and exquisitely controlled voices’ (Britishtheatre.com) create a unique and emotive blend, that fit perfectly together.
Having originated the roles of Falco and Sloane in the show, Rob and Sharon enjoyed rave reviews for their performances and onstage chemistry. The rollercoaster journey of Falco and Sloane’s relationship, was the inspiration behind their duets album Vision Of You which was widely and warmly received by fans, in December 2018.
The pair decided to further develop this idea and set about creating a live concert version of the album, which they staged in January. The set list grew and the storyline was brought further to life with Erin Ong’s beautiful animation artwork and voiceovers from their fellow Bat cast mates. The concerts were an unprecedented success across the board and so Rob and Sharon extended this special concert even further, inviting special power house performers, Simon Gordon and Georgia Carling to join them, in a two act concert, this time on Rob’s home turf.

As it’s over two decades since Rob took his first steps on stage with the KYT it’s only fitting that current members of KYT will also be making a very special appearance in Vision Of You alongside Rob, as he marks a long overdue return home to perform, with this very special piece.
