PETERBOROUGH BAND HOOKER CALL IT A DAY

ESP’s live music columnist Keith Dalton is sad to hear one of his favourites on the local scene, and one of the longest serving Peterborough bands, have decided to call it a day…

I’m used to announcing the emergence of new bands featuring local musicians in the area, but rarely bands ceasing, so I was gutted to hear that one of my favourites are finished.

I’m referring to Hooker. Yes, the Hooker of 27 years. I’ve always loved their performances and know that many people will miss them from the local scene.

A post on their Facebook page, Fans of Hooker, said – ‘After nearly 27 years of Hooker, we have reluctantly decided to call it a day. Over the last two years, it has become increasingly difficult to find time for gigs and rehearsals, mainly due to Trevor’s recent change of career.

‘We intended to add new material to freshen up the set lists, but we just can’t realistically find the time. We’re all very proud of what we’ve achieved over the last 27 years, and we thank every one of you for your enthusiastic support. Without all of you, there would have been no Hooker.

‘We’ve got stacks of amazing memories, had hundreds of unforgettable gigs, and most importantly, loads of laughs along the way. Thank you for sharing our journey with us, and making it so special. Love to you all, past and present, from all of us in Hooker, past and present x Trev, Rob, Sean, Pasky, Jeremy, Steve G, Ray, Maurice, Steve F, Dave P, Karl B, Colin.’

I go back a long way with Hooker and always remember having them perform live on Keith and Claire’s Band of the Week on former Peterborough radio station Lite FM.

I asked them how the name Hooker came about. I expected some exotic reason like the hippy drug pipes or infamous ladies of the night. How disappointed was I when they informed me that they named it after a Rugby position!

Drummer Rob Pincham confirmed the situation telling ESP – “I’m afraid after 27 years we’ve decided to call it a day. We had hoped to work round Trev’s rota but it became almost impossible to book ahead any gigs …so that’s it for now, unless you can sing?!”

Sadly I can’t sing, but I think I would look good in a second hand orange boiler suit!
