Peterborough’s New Theatre will remain closed until November 19 this year – it was hoped it could reopen in the summer.
Stuart Shanks Director of Venues at Selladoor says – “It’s heart-breaking to have to extend the temporary closure of our theatres until the autumn, however, the safety of our audiences, colleagues and visiting companies is paramount. Having worked with the industry sector and considered all government advice and social distancing requirements, we don’t feel we will be able to reopen until November and therefore have been forced to make this regrettable decision.
“Theatres across the country are the lifeblood of communities, we need each other, now more than ever; and we hope that our loyal audiences will continue to support us. We cannot wait to welcome our audiences back into our foyers, bars and auditoria just in time to enjoy a wonderful pantomime season.”
They are now working with the producers of all performances that were due to be staged between now and November 19 and hope to reschedule as many as possible.
New dates have already been arranged for Someone Like You (rescheduled to Friday 23rd July 2021), George Hinchcliffe’s Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain (rescheduled to Sunday 25th March 2021) and UK Pink Floyd Experience (rescheduled to Thursday 21st January 2021).
Customers should hear from the theatre soon about other shows that have been affected. All ticket holders will be contacted directly with options of either transfers to the new date, credit to account, or refund.
The theatre’s website is still available to book new tickets and they say they have big plans for this year’s pantomime Aladdin.
