Their Christmas wish has been granted and the show will go on - the Key Theatre in Peterborough will re-open in time for this year’s panto Aladdin.

The main auditorium has been closed for several weeks due to the discovery of RAAC (Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete) in the roof.

The City Council and Landmark Theatres have been working hard to resolve the issue which has meant some shows being rescheduled or moved. Now with the support and expert advice of structural engineers, a safe solution will be installed over the coming weeks on the interior of the main auditorium.

Works will be carried out from now through to mid-November which unfortunately affects the Key Theatre’s planned programme over this period. The majority of the programme has been rescheduled or moved to other spaces and all customers will be contacted in the coming days with further information.

The Chalkboard tearoom and bistro remains open throughout, as well as other spaces including the studio theatre, box office, offices, spires rooms and swan rooms.

The Key Theatre will re-open on Saturday December 2 for the first performance of Aladdin. For further information about tickets please visit

Landmark Theatres will then continue to work with Peterborough City Council to agree a timeframe for full roof replacement that will be scheduled at a time that will minimise the impact on the programme and business.

Paul Jepson, CEO and Creative Director of Landmark Theatres said – “We would like to thank everyone for their kind words of support during what has been a challenging month for the Key Theatre. This support demonstrates how much this venue means to our audiences, participants, and artistic community here in Peterborough.

“We are pleased that a solution has been found so quickly in order to minimise the impact on our organisation and also to allow our much-loved Pantomime to go ahead as planned. The Key Theatre celebrates its 50th Birthday on 23rd November 2023. Keep an eye out on our socials for how you can get involved.”
