GREAT GIG CELEBRATES LIFE OF LOCAL GUY

A huge live music event is being staged at The Cresset in memory of one of the biggest characters on Peterborough’s live music scene.

‘Pete Thomson’s Memorial Hootenanny’ will see local bands and musicians, past and present, getting together for this exciting event this weekend Saturday March 7 and Sunday March 8. ESP’s live music reporters Keith Dalton and Andy Slater will be compering and the ESP Paparazzi photographer will be dropping by.

Pete Thomson was a regular supporter / member of many local bands across the city and is probably best known for his unique and superb renditions of ‘Delilah’, ‘Nut Bush City Limits’ and ‘Whole lotta Rosie’. Sadly he passed away in November 2014 at Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall, after being diagnosed with Metastatic Lung Cancer only 7 weeks earlier.

Colin Smith (Citizen Smith) was a very close friend of Pete’s and is organising the event with all proceeds going to the Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice Appeal.

Colin told ESP – “I spent almost a week at Thorpe Hall with Pete in his last few days and the care and service that is available for patients and their families is phenomenal. Because Pete’s condition deteriorated so suddenly, he didn’t get to fulfil his wish to go to one last gig. That is why I wanted to get all of his favourite bands together for one almighty gig in his honour. Pete was a very popular and loved man and the response from our fantastic local bands and musicians has resulted in us having to make this a two day event to fit all of the bands in!”
