More than 99,000 trees have been planted in Peterborough as part of a project to plant one tree for every person living in Peterborough by 2030.
Local charity, Peterborough Environment City Trust has planted a total of 99,506 trees so far with just under 6,000 trees planted this season.
Everyone’s getting involved including communities, families and business groups volunteering to make the city that little bit greener.
Simon Belham who is the project officer says, “It has been a busy season but made so enjoyable by all the helpers we have had join us on event days. I would just like to say thank you to everyone who took the time to don a pair of gloves, grab a spade and a tree and help out with the planting. Our project can only be made possible with each and every person who volunteered.”
To carry on their successful green project they’re in need of land to plant on so waste no time and get in touch if you know anything about free land that can be used to make sure this project continues.
There is a chance next season of planting the 100,000th tree but without land this can’t happen.
