FILM REVIEW: TOGETHER (15) ESP RATING: 4/5

A slow-burning, body-melding horror that’ll either haunt you – or totally lose you!

Together is one of those rare horror films that goes all-in on being strange – and it’s all the better for it. Directed by Michael Shanks and starring Dave Franco and Alison Brie, this surreal indie flick blends relationship drama with disturbing body horror, wrapped in a slow, tension-filled burn.

Franco and Brie play Tim and Millie, a couple trying to patch things up by moving to the countryside. But instead of healing, they’re hit with an eerie, unseen force that begins warping their minds – and literally fusing their bodies together. It’s grotesque, metaphorical, and surprisingly emotional, digging into themes like co-dependency, love, sacrifice, and the fear of losing yourself in a relationship.

Brie and Franco’s real-life relationship gives their on-screen chemistry an authenticity that really sells the emotional weight behind the horror. Whether they’re playfully bickering or becoming a literal flesh-monster, they make it feel real, which only makes the whole thing more unsettling.

Before I watched Together, I did a quick scroll through Google reviews – and immediately noticed something interesting. It had just as many one-star ratings as it did five-star ones. That alone made me curious. I love a film that divides people, and Together does exactly that. I can see why some people love it while others hate it. It’s slow, surreal, and doesn’t care about being easily digestible – which, honestly, I respect.

When the credits rolled, I wasn’t even sure what I thought. But the more I sat with it, the more it grew on me. It’s the kind of film that lingers – one you keep thinking about hours (or days) later.

It’s worth noting that Together is likely to be getting a minimal cinema run – with just a couple of showings per day in its opening week – so if quirky, indie horror is your thing, catch it before it becomes untwined.
