FIFTY SHADES OF PLAY!

As the most talked about film is about to reach the big screen ESP’s Mikey Clarke brings us his Top 5 spoofs of Fifty Shades of Grey…

Fifty Shades of Grey has become a worldwide phenomenon. It became the fastest-selling paperback book ever, beating J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series and now the film version comes to Showcase cinema on February 13.

In total, ten well-known movie studios fought for the rights to the film adaptation, including Fox 2000, Sony Pictures, Warner Bros and Paramount – with it eventually going to Universal for a whopping $5 million.

Another way to tell how big something has got is by the amount of people spoofing it. There have been numerous Fifty Shades of Grey parodies, and I’ve chosen my Top 5.

5) In fifth place is a book titled Fifty Sheds of Grey. An erotic story based around garden sheds doesn’t sound like an instant bestseller, but for a few weeks it was actually outselling the book it was spoofing. I (sadly) have a copy in the bathroom for easy reading.

Here are just a couple of extracts from the book:

“I lay back exhausted, gazing happily out of the shed window. Despite my concerns about my inexperience, my rhubarb was coming up a treat.”

“My body writhed and quivered from the pain. I had learned my first lesson. Never again would I leave an upturned plug on the shed floor.”

You’ll have to purchase the book for all the others.

4) Selena Gomez dated Justin Bieber for a while, but we all make mistakes – so I’m allowing her to be on the list. Fifty Shades of Blue sees Selena obsessing over a decorator (a VERY LUCKY decorator) in a Fifty Shades of Grey style.

3) One of the many books spoofing the erotic novel is Fifty Shames of Earl Grey, which was written by Andrew Shaffer in just 10 days. Having been written so quickly, you’d be right in thinking it is an easy read – but a funny one.

Below are some extracts from the book:

“My god, Anna,” he says. “I almost lost you.” He has me in his powerful grip. I’ve never felt this safe before.

“Never let go,” I say, looking into his beautiful grey eyes.

“That could be problematic,” he says. “I’ll have to let you go at some point. What if I have to pee? What if you have to pee?”

“I don’t care,” I say.

“What if I have an important business meeting and I’m holding you and we’re both covered in urine?”

I start to cry. “You’re right,” I say, turning my face away from his gaze. “Nothing lasts forever.”

2) The popular American TV Host, Ellen Degeneres starts the video below joking that she is often cut out of films. She continues to claim that this will not be the case with the Fifty Shades of Grey film and that she will definitely be playing the lead role – despite rumours that say otherwise.

The trailer (with Ellen cleverly put in) is very funny and definitely worth a watch. [youtube id=”cnoZeGkhFGo” width=”600″ height=”350″]

1) Finally, here we see Will Ferrell & Zach Galifianakis. The pair are hilarious on screen together in the film The Campaign, and they’re even funnier when reading Fifty Shades of Grey out loud. [youtube id=”M-ilQtsazZU” width=”600″ height=”350″]

If this hasn’t satisfied your Fifty Shades of Grey appetite then check out February’s edition of ESP Magazine. Not only will there be details on how to win 50 fabulous prizes in our special competition, ESP’s Sarah Tempest will be giving her thoughts on the book, whilst I explain how seeing the film might just be beneficial for us guys!
