ESP’s style guru Sue Donnelly gives us her take on the summer looks featured in the July issue’s fashion pages….
Three of the biggest trends this year are florals, lace and denim – but not like you’ve ever seen before.
This time around it’s perfectly OK for men to wear some flowers!
Look out for details on shirts and even sweat shirts as modelled by Darren and Lee (below).
This season it’s fine to work out at the gym and still sport your more feminine side.
Denim has made itself known in virtually every conceivable way.
Apart from the inevitable jeans, you’ll find it in shorts, skirts, dresses, tops, jumpsuits and even handbags.
No longer restricted to blue, look for colours such as red or white and with added motifs in a floral pattern.
Summer is the time for outdoor festivals. To capture that ‘boho’ feel, add some suede fringing in a poncho or a handbag.
If suede (or tan) isn’t your thing you can wear pattern (stripes) instead. Team with lace for a really up to date vibe.
Lace is everywhere, as seen in Jenny’s strappy top (left). White is the summer choice but if that’s too ‘risky’ choose something darker. You’ll even find it lurking in this year’s jeans.
Gingham has made a comeback too but it’s no longer reminiscent of Doris Day.
You can find it in cut off shirts, dresses and trousers. Combine with lace or denim for a more creative look.
The kimono can be found in long and shorter styles.
It’s a great way to add some zing in your outfit and as a cover up when it gets cold.
Leave loose if you don’t have a defined waist.
A tip: If you are choosing pattern, select with your body shape in mind. A more rounded pattern looks better on a curvier body. Stripes often suit a straighter one.
