Lights, camera, selfie! Peterborough’s magnificent Cathedral is set to be transformed into a kaleidoscope of colour with a new style light and sound experience this winter – and you’ll definitely want photos.

Over the last two years we’ve enjoyed some amazing productions from digital art specialists Luxmuralis which have stunned visitors of all ages. This year the interior will be illuminated by an amazing series of moving images for a new style multi-sensory experience.

This November Luxmuralis bring us a spectacular production called The Manger, aptly telling the story of the Nativity and timed to coincide with the start of Advent. The stunning architecture of Peterborough’s iconic landmark will become the canvas for a series of projections along with a beautiful original soundtrack to accompany it, enhanced by the Cathedral’s wonderful acoustics.

Whenever you set foot inside this magnificent building it’s always breathtaking with one of the best medieval ceilings. This artistic and inspiring experience will mean you can also enjoy it after dark and see it literally in a whole new light!

During this immersive journey you’ll meander around the whole of the interior space of the Cathedral with different installations to journey round and walk through. It usually takes about 45mins to an hour to make your way round, but you can spend as long as you want drinking it all in once inside. It will be a one-way flow and suitable for wheelchairs and prams so that everyone can enjoy it.

We’ve been to every one of the previous lights events and it really is stunning when you walk through those doors – you are mesmerised by it!

Paul Stainton, head of communications at Peterborough Cathedral told ESP – “'The astounding Luxmuralis light show has become a firm family favourite for people over the last few years, signalling the start of the festive period for many.

“This year we are aiming to provide a completely fresh experience for people, by bringing the whole show inside of the Cathedral for the first time.

“Christmas is a time of joy, wonder and light so we want to share the Christmas story and invite everyone to come along and see the inside of the Cathedral completely transformed by light and sound and to start their Christmas celebrations with us.”

The award-winning Luxmuralis tour the country with captivating shows illuminating spectacular buildings and cathedrals nationwide. Last year social media was full of photos and positive feedback that this was an event Peterborough Cathedral could be proud of and it drew visitors from far and wide. This year’s new indoor display will bring us a light show you really won’t want to miss.

This event is the perfect antidote to those chilly dark nights and something different for all the family to enjoy in the heart of the city centre.

There will be timed ticket slots and once inside there’s no rush to leave, you can enjoy mince pies and mulled wine and perhaps even pick up a gift in the Cathedral shop.
