Peterborough’s only community hydrotherapy pool has been reopened with support from Vivacity.
After a 6 month closure, St George’s Community Hydrotherapy Pool, has recently reopened to support children and adults with disabilities and long-term health conditions, and those undergoing surgery and injury rehabilitation.
Vivacity has now undertaken the development, and management of this valued local facility.
Working alongside Friends of St George’s Community Hydrotherapy Pool and Peterborough City Council, Vivacity will be looking to not only continue the pool and spa services* but enhance the current offering with their sports development and health and wellbeing programmes (examples include Vivacity Swim Academy and GP referral classes)**.
Vivacity CEO, Kevin Tighe said – “We’re so pleased to be able to protect such a valuable community asset and our experience with managing community facilities makes Vivacity the perfect partner for St George’s Community Hydrotherapy Pool. We’re committed to ensuring that Peterborough is a better place to live, visit, and work for all and we look forward to working closely with Friends of St George’s Community Hydrotherapy Pool, to safeguard and develop this service.”
Karen Oldale spoke of the Friends and Service Users’ group delight of this new venture with Vivacity: “It’s such good news that Vivacity will be taking over the management of St George’s. The pool has the potential to be hugely successful and be an even greater community asset.
“The warm supportive waters of the hydrotherapy pool benefits both children and adults with a wide range of disabilities or long-term health conditions. It can also assist in the rehabilitation from surgery or an injury. In addition, St George’s offers valuable relaxation and leisure time for those with learning and physical disabilities.”
Councillor Irene Walsh, cabinet member for communities, said: “Around 250 people across the city each week rely on St George’s for pain relief and companionship, it really is a wonderful and much-valued facility.
“Vivacity have an excellent track record for running community facilities, so I am delighted that they will be taking on the management of St George’s.”
