This is the newly released autobiography of John Glen – the longest serving director of James Bond films. John directed all five during the 1980’s (including Octopussy’s train scenes filmed on the Nene Valley Railway in 1982), was second unit director on The Spy Who Loved Me, edited On Her Majesty’s Secret Service and was also involved in screen-testing Pierce Brosnan.
Put simply he is a James Bond film legend as highlighted during the 50th Anniversary of James Bond films in 2012 when he returned to Peterborough to present the Nene Valley Railway with a commemorative plaque for being a key James Bond film location.
After reading this, no trip on a Nene Valley steam train with ever be the same!
RRP: £25 Available from WH Smiths (check store for details of any money off deals).
At over 700 pages this is an epic book that explores the history of cinema’s longest running film series. Written by two of the world’s leading authorities on the James Bond films, it tells the true story of the makings of every 007 film from Dr No to Skyfall, and with SPECTRE details up to the start of filming.
It’s beautifully written with a treasure trove of Bond trivia and a chapter dedicated to each film, including interviews and insights with the many names that have made the films what they are. Unmissable entertainment.
No film fan’s bedside table should be without it !
Although it was originally released in 2012, this book deserves to be far more well known than it is. If you’ve ever watched a James Bond film on TV over Christmas or a Bank Holiday then you will absolutely identify with this book written by Mark O’Connell – a lifelong James Bond fan. Mark’s grandfather Jimmy used to work as producer Cubby Broccoli’s chauffeur meaning there are some wonderful stories about Mark’s Bond experiences both as a child and into adulthood.
You know those few days between Christmas and New Year when you’re not quite sure what to do with yourself ? If you love James Bond, then this is what you read before the start of 2016.
