THE ESP GUIDE TO THE TOP 5 COMEDY GIGS IN PETERBOROUGH IN 2021

ESP’s comedy columnist Sarah Slack knows where the laughs are at, and boy do we need some after this year! So whether you’re looking for a Christmas present for the comedy lover in your life, or just need a laugh to look forward to, let Sarah give you her suggestions…

Due to the uncertain events of 2020, many of the original gigs I raved about in my column at the beginning of the year were unfortunately cancelled, however it’s been really positive to see that many theatres and performers have since rescheduled their shows for future performances. For those in desperate need of a laugh, I’ve therefore compiled my list of the best comedy gigs coming to Peterborough in 2021 to help give you something to look forward to in the New Year:

27 February 2021 – Josh Widdicombe

The guy everyone can do an impression of (myself included) is back with a brand-new stand-up tour which will see him performing at the Cresset on Saturday February 27, 2021. Widdicombe is best known for the twice BAFTA nominated and award-winning show The Last Leg, as well as his own sitcom Josh and appearances on QI, Have I Got News For You and Taskmaster.  Tickets available by calling 01733 265705 or visiting www.cresset.co.uk.

5 April 2021 – Lost Voice Guy

Following the success of his huge sell out 2019 UK tour, Lost Voice Guy is heading back out on the road to put a smile on the faces of people up and down the country once again, and will be performing at Peterborough’s New Theatre on Monday April 5, 2021. The Britain’s Got Talent winner will poke fun at his life living as a disabled person in a post-apocalyptic world, as he tries to cope with the fame and fortune since his memorable victory. Tickets available by visiting www.newtheatre-peterborough.com.

6 May 2021 – David Baddiel

Following his five-star Olivier-nominated hit My Family: Not The Sitcom, David Baddiel comes back to the stage with a brand new one-man show, Trolls: Not The Dolls.  Performing at The Cresset, David has always seen online trolls as hecklers, and if a comedian gets heckled, it’s their duty not to ignore the heckler, but to wittily put them down. Over the years, David has spent a lot of time doing this, which has led him to think that there might be a show in it: a show that would say something about how we live now. Tickets available on 01733 265705 or www.cresset.co.uk.

22-23 September 2021 – John Bishop

Comedy superstar John Bishop will be returning to Peterborough for two dates in September with his highly anticipated brand-new stand up show – Right Here, Right Now. This will be John’s eighth stand up show and it’s shaping up to be his best yet.  John has achieved huge success with a number of his own comedy, entertainment and documentary shows, but more  recently he’s starred in four series of the critically acclaimed ‘John Bishop: In Conversation With…’ which saw him chatting one to one with some of the world’s biggest, household names.  Tickets are available by visiting www.newtheatre-peterborough.com.

2 October 2021 – Fin Taylor

Described by the Scotsman as ‘the most discussed and critically praised comedian of recent Edinburgh Fringes’, Fin Taylor has cemented himself a reputation for being one of the most creative and controversial up and coming comedians on the UK circuit today. Performing at the Key Theatre on October 2, 2021, expect a powerhouse performance of political comedy that’s gutsy, honest, and unlike anything you’ve ever seen before. As seen on Live At The Apollo, 8 out of 10 Cats, and the Mash Report. Tickets are available on 01733 207239.
