The developers behind the £100m North Westgate project – a huge regeneration project in Peterborough – have announced public exhibitions so we get the chance to take a look at what’s planned.
We get to see the vision for this ambitious North Westgate project, which will regenerate a key part of Peterborough’s city centre, on April 29 and April 30.
In advance of submitting a planning application early in the summer, the developers will be sharing their exciting plans for the £100 million project, which include a new eight-screen cinema complex, a new public square around Westgate Church plus homes, a Food Hall, offices, shops and restaurants.
The aim is to create a regional leisure centre to regenerate the area and attract more people to the city centre.
The public exhibitions will take place from 2pm to 8pm on 29 and 30 April, at Centre 68, 68B Westgate, behind Westgate Church.

The North Westgate development extends from Bourges Boulevard across to Lincoln Road, and from Bright Street on the north side to Westgate at the south.
The developers, Hawksworth Securities plc, will also create 120 new one, two and three-bedroom city apartments, some with rooftop gardens, plus a 100-room hotel. The development will be pedestrian friendly, creating an appealing outdoor space with external dining areas for cafes and restaurants with Westgate Church as a focal point. With luxury office space a key part of the project, it is anticipated that 1,500 new jobs will be created.
Peter Breach, Chairman of Hawksworth Securities, the investment company behind the development said: “The consultation phase for this project is a vital one and we are keen to get the views of as many local people as we can. We’d particularly like Peterborough people to express their views about the Food Hall, so that it delivers what people want, whether it’s fresh local meats, cheeses and other produce, or ready-to-eat ethnic dishes that represent the city’s diverse communities.
“The North Westgate development will deliver major benefits to the city, at both an economic and a cultural level, and we want to ensure we are working in harmony with the local community. I encourage anyone who is interested in the scheme to come and see us at the exhibitions.”
If you can’t manage to drop by the exhibition you can share your thoughts on the development via the survey at www.north-westgate.com/public-consultation. There’s more info about the development and public consultation on this website so take a look and see what you think.
