Actor Warwick Davis was the special guest at the official opening of the new undercover car sales area at Motorpoint in Peterborough… and drove away with a new people carrier for his theatre tour!
Off the top of my head, I’d probably spend £250k on a huge Nando’s party (chicken for all!). Motorpoint decided to use this amount of money much more wisely.
Peterborough’s Motorpoint became the fifth location for the UK’s number one car supermarket when it first opened for business back in May 2007. The site has always included large outdoor and indoor showrooms as well as numerous workshops and offices. As of today, it also boasts a new undercover canopy where you can browse for a new set of wheels whatever the weather… and believe me, there are hundreds to choose from!
At the official opening this afternoon (February 28 ), management treated guests to food, champagne and a special appearance by Hollywood actor, and Peterborough celebrity Warwick Davis, the star of many films including Harry Potter and TV’s Life’s Too Short.
The canopy was officially opened by the Mayor of Peterborough, Councillor June Stokes, with help from Warwick and you can view our video below. We asked Warwick why he’d offered to support the opening. “The good folk at Motorpoint are sponsoring my theatre production company – The Reduced Height Theatre Company,” he explained. “We’re touring the UK and I needed a tour bus, so these guys loaned me a nice Citroen Dispatch for the duration of the tour. The least I could do was come and support their opening.”
I grabbed a few words with Lee Arnold, the General Manager for Motorpoint, Peterborough who told me the new canopy will give customers more opportunity to check out their huge range of nearly new vehicles – “When our customers come down to look at cars it’s often cold and raining, so we decided to make a canopy for them. Now, when they come down it doesn’t matter if it’s raining as they’ll remain dry, and it doesn’t matter if it’s dark as it’s nicely lit up.”
During our chat with Warwick, he told us how things were going with his new theatre project See How They Run, gave us his highlights of starring in An Idiot Abroad and how he’s currently working on a new film by director, Ridley Scott. Our full exclusive ESP interview will be available soon.
Check out Motorpoint’s impressive new development by visiting them at Edgerley Drain Road, Fengate, Peterborough, PE1 5NL or call 01733 822122 – they’re open until 8pm weekdays.
