Voodoo Stands Up, the monthly comedy club at Mama Liz’s, Stamford are celebrating winning the award for the Best Comedy Club in a competition to celebrate central England’s top stand up comics and comedy clubs.
More than 4,000 people voted on line for the awards with The Stamford club causing the biggest upset on the night by beating Just the Tonic (Nottingham) and The Glee Club (Birmingham) for the top award of Best Comedy Club.
Following the awards night held at the Hummingbird club in Birmingham, Voodoo Stand up compere John Elson announced the news on social media saying – ‘We came first! Thanks to our loyal audience, good friends and all the comedians that voted for us’.
Since Voodoo Stand Up began in 2008 at Mama Liz’s the comedy club has welcomed hundreds of stand up comedians to Stamford, from rising stars to established acts such as Milton Jones, Jo Caulfield and Gary Delaney.
Another Paul Kerensa, better know to many as one the writers of hit TV shows Miranda and Not Going Out commented on hearing the news of Voodoo Stand ups success by saying on Facebook – ‘I am unsurprised – it is the best! Well done’.
The next Voodoo Stand Up night is on February 11 featuring comedians Pippa Evans and Michael Fabbri. Doors open 8pm Admission £8 (£10).
