How Matt’s Key’d up for The Key!
As award-winning big band singer Matthew Ford prepares to make his third appearance at The Key Theatre with his brand new show the Kings of Cool, on Friday October 10, memories of his very first performance at the Key with the Syd Lawrence Orchestra, the internationally renowned orchestra, come flooding back.
It was the success of his performance at The Key that led to Matt being asked to perform with the famous Syd Lawrence Orchestra over the next 5 years, and which acted as a springboard for his further success with most of the UK’s top big bands, such as the John Wilson Orchestra, and why Matthew Ford is now widely regarded as the UK’s finest big band singer.
Said Matt: “It was in 2000, and not only was it my first gig at The Key Theatre, it was my first ever show performing with the Syd Lawrence. Given that the Orchestra is widely regarded as a ‘National Treasure’, the pressure was on!
“I remember being utterly terrified! There are still people who come to me at the Key and tell me they remember that first gig. These people still support me whenever I appear at the venue.”
Thankfully, Matt rose to the challenge. “That’s why performing at The Key again always brings back special memories for me,” he said. Matt will also start his third major tour with the John Wilson Orchestra in November, playing some of the largest venues in the UK, including the Albert Hall.
For fans of cool swinging standards, The Great American Songbook, and the music of the Rat Pack, then the Kings of Cool is a must-see, featuring songs made famous by Sinatra, Buble, Tony Bennett, Bobby Darin, Andy Williams and many more.
The Kings of Cool with Matthew Ford, featuring his own 9-piece big band, will be appearing at The Key Theatre Peterborough on Friday October 10. Tickets – Box Office: 01733 207239 or visit:
