Local hero, Olympic gymnast Louis Smith MBE will be switching on this year’s Christmas Lights in the city centre.
The stage will be set for a fantastic start to the city’s festivities with the Christmas tree going up on November 11 which should definitely start to get you in the mood for the arrival of the big guy in red!
Louis told ESP he can’t wait – “I’m really happy to be switching on the Christmas lights in Peterborough this year. The town is so important to me – I’ve grown up here and still live in the area and throughout my career the support from local people has been incredible and unwavering. It’s played a huge part in my successes and it’s amazing to still receive so much support as I continue to pursue success for Team GB. As a result it’s great to be a part of event, support the local community and say thank you to everyone.”
The former Strictly Come Dancing Champion with a string of TV appearances to his credit will join Santa and the Mayor on stage for the big switch on hosted by Kev Lawrence from Heart FM. There’ll be live music and entertainment throughout the day leading up to the early evening switch on followed by a burst of fireworks.
Afterwards you can meet Louis at the Town Hall where he’ll be signing copies of his latest calendar. There’ll also be a mince pie and mulled wine reception in aid of the Mayor’s charities.
Make sure you’re there to see Christmas officially get started in the city.
The full running order for the day will be posted here soon so keep an eye out.
