FREE APPLE TREE TO PLANT AS PART OF FOREST CAMPAIGN

Stanground residents can take home a free apple tree when they support tree planting…

This spring, Forest for Peterborough will be giving residents in Stanground the opportunity to take home their very own free apple tree to plant in their garden!

On Saturday March 26 there will be a drop-in event held between 10.30am-4pm. Visitors will be able to take part in a tree planting day at the site, helping to plant over 500 trees to improve the local area, and then the first 100 Stanground residents to attend also have the opportunity to take away their own free apple tree with instructions for planting at home, to improve tree coverage in the local area.

“It is wonderful that a public space will be transformed through this event, but attendees will also have the opportunity to make their own green spaces at home more eco-friendlyand attractive to wildlife with the planting of an apple tree.”

Launched by the independent charity Peterborough Environment City Trust (PECT) back in 2010, Forest for Peterborough is an exciting project to plant over 180,000 trees in and around the city and surrounding countryside by 2030. The aim is to plant one tree for every person living in the city.

PECT wants to improve tree coverage to create a network of wooded areas, improving green spaces, the quality of air we breathe, and also making sure that Peterborough is less vulnerable to the effects of flooding. The tree planting will form a vital network of wildlife corridors, threading their way through our built-up areas.

The event will be held at the green space next to the river off North Street (accessed via Wessex Close), Stanground PE2 8HS. Limited parking available. Can also be reached via the Number 3 bus. You can register your attendance on 07715 372432or via email at simon.belham@pect.org.uk.For more information about the project and how you can get involved, please visit the website at www.pect.org.uk/Forest.

Forest for Peterborough is grateful for the support of the Mick George Community Fund, IKEA, Peterborough City Council and Buckles Solicitors.
