Peterborough Cathedral is looking for friendly and outgoing volunteers to help out at the new Visitor and Learning Centre which will open in the Precincts on September 10.
The volunteers are needed to meet and greet the wide range of visitors who will come to look around the Centre and find out more about the Cathedral. In the Centre, newly created displays will include a timeline of objects from the Cathedral’s 900 year history and an interactive touch table revealing facts and faces from the Cathedral’s past and present.
“This is an exciting opportunity for anyone who loves meeting people and is enthusiastic about the Cathedral and its history”, said Lisa Foulkes-Arnold, Volunteer Coordinator. “So if you have always thought you would like to volunteer at the Cathedral, why not give me a call?”
The work needs some degree of physical stamina as the volunteers will be moving between the different parts of the Centre, which includes a temporary exhibition room on the ground floor and meeting rooms on the upper floors (there is a lift). They should also be happy learning to use the till and credit card machines, although training in this and other aspects of the role will be given.
The volunteers are needed to work at least one half-day per week. The Centre will be open seven days a week from 10.00am until 5.00pm between Easter and October (4.00pm on Sundays), and 11.00am until 4.00pm during the winter months (3.00pm on Sundays).
