BEARS ON BIKES ARRIVE FOR THE AMAZON WARD

Dozens of cyclists arrived at Peterborough City Hospital ‘bearing’ gifts.

Yaxley Riders pulled together cycling clubs from all over the area to join them on a charity mission to deliver teddy bears to children in the hospital’s Amazon Ward on Sunday December 6.

It was an amazing site as the cyclists swooped down to the main entrance with their cuddly companions before heading inside to pass on their gifts to the youngsters.

It was the idea of Wayne Langley, Yaxley’s Rider of the Year, who’s well known for previous fundraising and charity stunts. Wayne also set up PACE (Peterborough All Terrain Cycling Enthusiasts) and says he hopes to make this an annual event.

“It was great,” Wayne told ESP. “Lots of people had lined the streets as we travelled through town and waved us along and when some of the of the kids came out it was quite emotional as some are pretty poorly. Bringing a smile to their faces was just brilliant!”

Around 88 took part from cycling clubs including Spalding Spinners, Fenland Clarion, Black Bears from Wisbech and the Gorilla Firm from Oundle.

They gave the hospital over 150 teddy bears and also raised £400 towards a party for the kids.
