The Apprentice has returned to our screens with a new bundle of business professionals including one from Peterborough!
Could the winning candidate be Peterborough City Council worker and fashion retailer, Nurun Ahmed? Based on her performance in the first episode, I’d say it’s entirely possible.
Episode 1 saw the 20 entrepreneurs challenged to sell products which have all appeared in the first task of the last nine series. From coffee to floaty fish, the teams had just one day to make as much money as possible.
The groups were split into boys v girls, with the boys calling themselves Team Summit and the girls opting for Team Decadence – suggested by our very own 37 year-old local. Nurun explained that the name was a play on the decade theme, but perhaps should have looked into the meaning of the word. This was after Nick (Lord Sugar’s trusted advisor) explained – “It combines decay, decline, with lots of self-indulgence – hardly the qualities I would have thought you would wish to find in your next business partner.”
Nurun may have made a mistake with the team name, but other than that she came across very well on screen. In her words, “I am the Asian spice that completes sugar and spice.” That’s a much better line than another candidate, who cringingly explained, “There’s no I in team, but there’s five in individual brilliance.” There are two in idiot – just saying.
Nurun may be a fmailiar face to many local Peterborough people either through her marketing work at the City Council or manning her stall Scarfs Inc on the City Market. Nurun told us she was nervous about watching the first episode air.
“As the filming of the process took place 4-5 months ago I was feeling quite anxious and excited at the same time! This was the first time I got to see it myself, so I wasn’t sure what to expect! But it’s all in the name of show ‘business’ and I will ride the waves!”
So will Nurun be hired… or fired? It’s hard to say with so much competition on the show, but we’ll be rooting for her all the way. You can read a full interview with Nurun about her experiences on the show in ESP next month!
I won’t ruin the surprise and say who won the first episode. If you missed it, you can catch up with the show on BBC iPlayer. You can get a double dose of boardroom drama this week as the second episode airs tonight (Wednesday Oct 15), with the series then continuing on Wednesdays at 9pm on BBC One.
