HERITAGE FESTIVAL IS A FEAST OF FREE FUN!

One of our favourite events is here once again and if you haven’t been along to the Peterborough Heritage Festival before make sure you don’t miss out this time!

It really is a fantastic day out right in the heart of the city and it’s completely free! You can come face to face with a tank, a falcon, a Roman or a World War II pilot – you never know who or what you’ll bump into as you wander round the displays and this year there’s a new Food Fayre too.

It’s back, even bigger and better than before, on Saturday June 21 and Sunday June 22, with several fringe events running from June 13 – 29.

Arranged in association with Vivacity, Peterborough Cathedral and Peterborough City Council, the Festival is set in the historic Cathedral Precincts, Cathedral Square, Bridge Street, St John’s Square and Peterborough Museum. This is a unique chance to experience 3,500 years of heritage in the UK’s only city centre multi-period living history festival.

The Heritage Festival features over 300 costumed re-enactors from some of the country’s top Living History groups, giving you a chance to meet all sorts of colourful costumed characters from our past.

The main arena occupies Cathedral Square with a packed programme of live period music, falconry displays and spectacular battle displays. Over 30 local history societies, community groups and historic attractions put on displays to show off the best of our local heritage. The period market is held on the main Cathedral green, while the craft fair on Cathedral Square provides fantastic shopping opportunities.

You can relax with the family in the Children’s Zone – an activity area for the kids with jesters, storytellers, games and activities. There’ll be fun family activities too in the hands-on science marquee on St John’s Square, arranged in association with the Natural History Museum, as well as vintage vehicle displays, folk dancing and more.

Visit the new Food Fayre on Bridge Street, to discover an exciting taste of unusual local produce, foods and drinks for you to sample or to buy and take away. Plus, commemorating the First World War, there’ll be a large Living History Encampment on site, along with a full-sized replica of a tank!

There’s so much going on during the Heritage Festival visit www.vivacity-peterborough.com/PeterboroHeritageFest for all the news and join in the conversation with #PeterboroHeritageFest.
