GET READY FOR PANCAKES IN THE PRECINCTS!

It’s Pancakes in the Precincts at Peterborough Cathedral on February 28!

On Shrove Tuesday at 1pm, Peterborough Cathedral is inviting people to take part in a fun-run style Pancake Race around the Precincts, and help raise some funds for the Cathedral.

Pancakes for the race will be provided free of charge by event caterers, The Fenland Roaster, and the Cathedral will invite donations from those who take part. Freshly made pancakes will also be on sale, making this a great way to spend a lunch hour for spectators too.

Anyone who’d like to enter the pancake race must first register online via the Cathedral’s Pancake Race web page. They are also asked to bring their own frying pan and make sure they are wearing suitable shoes for running or walking.

The organisers are hoping that groups of work colleagues will take up the challenge but the race is open to anyone who would like to try their hand at flipping pancakes in front of the city’s great landmark.

The event will also give people the opportunity to show their support for the Cathedral, which is working hard to meet its day to day running costs.

Canon Ian Black of Peterborough Cathedral said:

“Shrove Tuesday is traditionally a day of fun before the fasting of Lent begins the next day. I’m delighted that we will be holding a pancake race. It promises to be a great event for the community. Lent lasts 40 days and reminds us of the time Jesus spent in the wilderness in prayer, reflection and fasting before he began his public ministry. Like him, we use the days of Lent to pray and reflect as we prepare for the Easter celebrations which follow.”

Adults and children are welcome to take part in the race and the suggested donation is £3 per adult and £1 per child.
