It’s time for some magic and mayhem as Aladdin launches at the Key Theatre and panto season gets underway…
The story of Aladdin, the poor boy who finds fame and fortune thanks to a genie in a magic lamp, promises to build on the successes of two consecutive, record-breaking, sell-out pantos at the Key – Cinderella(2013) and Jack and the Beanstalk (2014)
They’re promising a side-splitting production with plenty of jokes and songs packed with Peterborough links. This year’s production runs from December 3 – January 3. It’s scripted by acclaimed theatre-maker Brad Fitt and composer Simon Egerton returns with original music and lyrics for the third year in a row but also steps into the world of directing
This year’s Aladdin will be filled with some of the UK’s most talented actor musicians, where the onstage cast are also the band! Aladdin promises a foot tapping, swinging style of comedy that has proved so popular since Cinderella (2013).
In the cast – Darren Machin plays the dame of dames Widow Twankey. In stark contrast to his TV appearances in Downton Abbey and New Tricks, Darren was in the West End with Privates On Parade and has worked with legendary dame Terry Scott as well as comedy greats Eric Sykes, Ray Cooney and Carry On’s Bernard Bresslaw.
Familiar faces to the Key; Natalie Morton Graham (Cinderella) returns to play Princess Poppy, with James Peake and Robin Johnson (Jack and the Beanstalk) back as Wishee Washee and the evil Abanazzar.
Newcomers: Sally Peerless plays Aladdin fresh from touring in Saturday Night Fever. With Trevor A Toussaint as the Genie straight from Sister Act and Helen Power (Chicago, Sunset Boulevard) as the glamorous Ishtar adding to this year’s talented cast.
We always love the local references and the fantastic intimate 360 seat auditorium means you really do feel part of the fun!
