FILM REVIEW: HECTOR AND THE SEARCH FOR HAPPINESS (15)

My search for a feel-good movie wasn’t found here.

When seeing the trailer for Hector and the Search for Happiness, I had high hopes of this being the film that The Secret Life of Walter Mitty could have been. Unfortunately, it’s not even as good as the similar Ben Stiller flick.

Hector-2

This movie sees Hector (Simon Pegg), an unconventional but loveable – typical from Pegg character – psychiatrist who becomes increasingly tired of his dull existence. His patients aren’t getting any happier and neither is he. So, Hector decides to break out of his dull and monotonous life. He escapes London and sets out on a worldwide quest to ‘find Himself’ and to find happiness.

Along the way, Hector makes new friends… many friends – and asks each and every one of them for their thoughts on ‘Happiness. This becomes a little tedious towards the end.

Hector-1

I must also say that Hector and the Search for Happiness is not as good as the best-selling novel (of the same name) that it’s based on. There was certainly a lot of potential for this film to work, but it simply doesn’t.

My expectations for this particular flick were high. Perhaps if I had walked into the screening with lower expectations, I’d have walked out more satisfied.
