Everything you’d expect from a Will Ferrell comedy…
And with Daddy’s Home he treads very familiar ground – so those that are a fan of his previous movies should leave pretty satisfied.
This comedy from the director of Horrible Bosses 2 once again teams Ferrell up with Mark Wahlberg – who played mismatched cops together in the 2010 film The Other Guys – and exhibits a similar plot of two incompatible people forced together, this time with them playing fathers.
Ferrell is Step-Dad to two children, Megan and Dylan. He’s desperately trying to win them over, and this becomes an even more difficult proposition after their super-cool, muscle-bound biological father (Wahlberg) visits.
The two of them then compete for the affection of the kids with varying degrees of hilarity – which is basically one long joke stretched out – but it kind of works.
Yes, the plot is simple, but – if you’re anything like me – that’s not why you to go to watch a Ferrell flick.
You go for the laugh-out-loud one-liners and with Daddy’s Home, there are loads crammed into the hour and a half run-time.
Some jokes fall flat, but as they’re so frequent, just as you’re starting to cringe over one line, you’re in hysterics because of another.
And fortunately with this – as the jokes hit more than they miss – Ferrell proves he’s the ‘daddy’ when it comes to this brand of humour.
