EVERY LITTLE (VOTE) HELPS FROGLIFE

There’s an important vote coming up… and we don’t mean the EU referendum!

Between 27th February and 6th March, Tesco stores across Peterborough will be hosting a very important vote for local projects to receive funds from the money people pay for carrier bags. All three projects that have been selected are guaranteed some money, but how much they get depends on you.

froglife-logo-99kbFroglife have been selected to receive either £8,000, £10,000 or £12,000 to improve the urban nature reserve The Boardwalks which runs alongside the River Nene near the rowing lake. They have grand plans to make this reserve a fantastic place for both people and wildlife and need your help. The best thing is, it won’t cost you a penny!

All you need to do is collect your chip, which will be given to you everytime you shop in a Peterborough Tesco store, and use it to Vote Froglife.

This is the first time money from the Bags of Help fund, administered by the environmental charity Groundwork,is being distributed.

Kathy Wormald, Froglife’s CEO said – “When do you ever get a chance to donate thousands of pounds for free? Please take your Tesco chip and Vote Froglife”

They have recently taken over management of The Boardwalks Nature Reserve and have already started some improvements. Froglife love amphibians, and want them to have access to the best restaurants, night clubs and nurseries that money can buy. You may have seen new ponds being created and some trees removed to stop leaf litter silting up existing ponds. But you may also have noticed vandalised information boards and the lack of seats. Froglife want to provide homes for all kinds of wildlife there and make it accessible and fun for families. They also want to demonstrate that the area’s being looked after to reduce antisocial behaviour. And the more money they get, the more they can do.

Froglife-I-slept-in-a-tree-at-boardwalksFroglife will be delivering some of the work through their projects with vulnerable and disadvantaged young people in Peterborough. So if you Vote Froglife you will also be supporting young people to learn new skills, gain confidence, and improve their social skills whilst they contribute in a positive way to the community.

Froglife’s Conservation Youth Worker on the Green Pathways Project said – “I love this site. I have had so much fun climbing trees, splashing in puddles and looking at toads with children here. I want more people to enjoy this special place. Please Vote Froglife.”

Voting will be happening in all Peterborough Tesco stores between 27th February and 6th March. Please visit www.froglife.org for more information.
