ESP BEATS THE DRUM ABOUT PETERBOROUGH DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL

It’s not often you see a 30 foot Dragon Boat when you pop to Tesco but shoppers at Serpentine Green came face to face with this beast as we shouted about this year’s Dragon Boat Race.

ESP’s Mikey Clarke was there to bang the drum about this fun summer event and to encourage new teams to take part.

Since then more and more local companies have put their names down for the race and things are shaping up nicely for another hugely successful event.

The Dragon Boat Race at the rowing lake is organised by Gable Events and will be held on Saturday June 8 with fast paced racing action throughout the day and plenty of bankside family fun.

You don’t need any experience and everything is provided. You could be joining local organisations such as Holiday Inn Peterborough West, Buckles Solicitors LLP, Midco Care, Whirlpool and main sponsors IKEA –  but you don’t have to be a business to take part. Local sports clubs, community groups or just your mates from the pub could all get together and take part. Why not mark a special birthday or occasion?

The event will raise vital funds for Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice, which provides expert palliative care and support for people living with life-limiting conditions as well as supporting their families.

Nilesh Patel, Community Fundraiser at Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall said – “We’re now half way for entries to be in for the big event, and we’re thrilled with the amount of interest being shown by local businesses, families and groups of friends too. It’s great to see some familiar faces entering again, along with new teams from Urban Edge Architects, Red Rock Partnerships and Fenmarc Produce to name a few.”

It’s all great fun both on and off the water, a perfect team building day whether you’re paddling the boat or enjoying the bankside activities. Connect FM will be compering the day and there is racing every few minutes.

Nilesh added – “This is one of the flagship fundraising events for our hospice and the day shows everyone what a big-hearted community Peterborough is to be part of. And it’s a great day out on the water, showcasing the passion and endurance of local people and organisations all topped off with some great river side entertainment for spectators.”

ESP is proud to be the print media partner for the third year running and our ESP Motley Crew will be taking to the water once again, gunning for a win to mark our 20 years in print… well, at least hoping not to capsize! The Dragon Boat Race is becoming increasingly popular so don’t miss out on your chance to join us and fundraise for such a great local cause.

“Last year was record-breaking, raising an incredible £35,000 so our Sue Ryder nurses, care staff and support teams can be there for local families when it matters,” said Nilesh. “We’d love to smash that total this year so our hospice can give more care to more people.”
