COMMUNITY POINT CELEBRATES 1st BIRTHDAY IN BOURNE

As part of a week-long first birthday celebration at South Kesteven Community Point, children will be able to meet the Book Start Bear at a special story and rhyme time.

The session will be held at 2pm on Tuesday March 4.

As well as story time ,children who visit throughout the week can get a free balloon and visit the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party which will be set up in the young people’s section of the library. And there’ll be a three for two offer on DVD rental.

The doors to the community point opened to the public this time last year and over the past 12 months it’s had almost 80,000 visitors.

SKDC currently offers 31 services or transaction types from the Bourne site including benefits advice, council tax and waste service enquiries, planning advice, repairs reports and licensing information. More than 7,400 customers used these services in the last year.

SKDC leader Linda Neal said: “These figures from year one of the community point show that this project has been good for our customers and for Bourne as well for the partners who contributed to the build.”

“When we decided to make this project a priority and work with the county and town councils to achieve our goal, I could not have anticipated that the usage would be so strong. I am really pleased that local people have embraced the community point and hope that the birthday celebrations are well attended.”

In the first six months the library also smashed its target of 11,772 customers with more than double that number using the service at a time when libraries are under fire nationally. By the end of August over 17,000 books had been issued and 254 new members were borrowing a book for the first time.
